We have some paste tomatoes growing in the back. I think one of the plants was supposed to be a yellow pear tomato, but it got confused, because it looks pretty well like a pear-shaped roma. It appears that the cross-pollination is causing hybridization.
Once upon a time, somewhere in mid-america, I knew a lot of people who didn’t like veggies. I think the accepted method of vegetable preparation in that area was to boil the veggies to within an inch of their life. I don’t know. All I know is that after I got to them, I had a lot of these people eating veggies that they never thought they would eat. I have managed to get a begrudging acceptance of brussels sprouts out of some die-hard veggie haters. A lot of it is just knowing what techniques best bring out the flavor. I am notoriously bad at pre-planing meals. My husband, if it can be imagined, is even worse. So needless to say the food that we keep around the house is pretty much staples and whatever meat looked good at the market this week. Plus we get a produce box weekly from Abundant Harvest, which is always fabulous because it is cheap and convenient, but means that we have basically no control over how much and what kind of produce we get.
