Avocado Lotion Bars

I love the idea of lotion bars.  But I made one a few weeks back with the typical ingredients of cocoa butter, beeswax, and coconut oil and wasn’t very pleased.  It was too solid and didn’t melt easily which made applying it really hard.  Plus it made me itch.  I don’t know if I might be slightly allergic to coconut.  I will probably flatly deny it if asked.  I kind of love coconut curry.

In order to make the bars a little softer, I thought I might try to add an oil that is liquid at room temperature.  I chose avocado oil, partly because I had it, and partly because it absorbs well and I love how soft it makes my skin.  Also it has anti-aging benefits, which can’t hurt, right?

So I mixed everything up.

Melting the beeswax

Pouring into some cute molds I got from Amazon.

Little Miss E helped.

I was planning to add some jasmine essential oils but I forgot.  They smell amazing anyhow.  I ‘m pretty happy with the way the texture turned out.  The surface is a little oily but it spreads onto the skin really easily.   And it’s a lovely green.  Little miss likes them, too.  She had to touch every single one.  They get hair and stuff stuck to them really easily, it turns out.  *sigh*

If you want to make them, too, here’s how:

What you’ll need. I got mine at Mountain Rose Herbs.

Avocado Lotion Bars:

1 part avocado oil

1 part cocoa butter

1 part beeswax

Optional: 10-20 drops essential oil

Melt beeswax in a glass jar in a pot of simmering water, or over a double boiler. Add cocoa butter and melt that, too. Pour in avocado oil.  Remove from heat, cool slightly, and stir in essential oil if using. Pour into molds. Let cool for an hour or so.

That’s it!  Easy-peasy.

Finished Result!
